Scott Jurek's Celebration at Mt. Katahdin

On July 12, 2015 Scott Jurek completed his record-breaking run of the Appalachian Trail.  Jurek's champagne celebration at the summit of Mt. Katahdin, seen above, broke several of Baxter State Parks rules and regulations and his actions earned him multiple citations from park rangers.  The events compelled park superintendent Jensen Bissell to write an open letter in which he makes known his frustrations with the recent increases in the number of Appalachian Trail thru-hikers coming through Baxter State Park, their disdain of the rules of the park which serve foremost to protect the wilderness of the park, as well as the special accomodations the park must make for the larger numbers of hikers coming each year.
