Who is Audie Murphy
Born in 1924, Audie Murphy enlisted in the U.S. Army after the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. He first saw action in 1943 when the Allies invaded Sicily. Audie Murphy first rose to prominance when in 1945, he became the most decorated soldier of World War II. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for acts of gallantry above and beyond the call of duty, as well as numerous other decorations and citations, from not just the United States but other Allied nations for his serviece. After the War, Audie Murphy became an accomplished Hollywood actor, staring in Spaghetti Westerns and war movies, and was later an accomplished writer and buisnessman. The plane trip in 1971 was a business trip to inspect a production plant that constructed pre-fabricated buildings, such as homes and motels. His death resulted in flags being flown at half-staff, nation wide, and many memorial services being conducted by various veteran's groups. He was buried at Arlington National Cemetary in Virginia, with his grave being one of the most visited graves at Arlington.
