Founded in the same year as the Appalachian Search and Rescue Conference, the Shenandoah Mountain Rescue Group has much of the Shenandoah Park area under its wing.

As it is a member of the ASRC, the Shenandoah Mountain Rescue Group must adhere to the many guidelines that the Conference sets up. As written in the SMRG Prospective Member Packet, all groups involved must be knowledgeable in search techniques among other things and the Group itself has regular training sessions to brush up on specific parts of their careers. The SMRG even expects each member to put in 100 hours of training or mission time per year.

If you were to become lost while in Shenandoah National Park, you cannot call this or any of the members of the Conference directly. The Group is a supplementary aid resource usually called in by the Police Department or the County Sheriff.
