“A group of PATC members at the dedication of the Sexton Shelter in 1930." The Sexton Shelter was named for Dr. Roy Lyman Sexton, a long-time member of the club. This image is scanned from a 4 x 3.5” glass positive slide. The Sexton Shelter was the first stone shelter on the Appalachian Trail south of New York and was the first shelter built by the club. The Sexton Shelter no longer exists. It was originally located on Thoroughfare Mountain in Shenandoah National Park before being moved to the George Washington National Forest where it was later struck by lightning and burned.
